Winter Decor beats out the Bleakness

Wow….. It seems like I am just finishing my mountain of Christmas decor, not to mention sorting through it and storing it back in the storage room.  Hard to believe its time to think about Winter decor.

Last year was the first time I did a winter decor theme.  Before that the house was stark and bare until March when I could start hoping for a Canadian spring.  As I still feel a bit overwhelmed by the Christmas rush, winter decor needs to be simple, quick and easy.

Keep some Christmas Decor

I keep the white from the Christmas decor where ever possible.  The white throws, some of the cushions, the white table scarves all stay, as does my white sparkly shower curtain and one sparkly crystal snowflake in the window.  I remove the red towels and stay with all white towels in the bathrooms.  The red napkins and poinsettia are replaced with white napkins and pine cones.

Winter Decor, DIY, Crafts, Home decorI updated the Christmas centerpiece, replacing the red poinsettia and napkins with natural pine cones and simple white napkins.

Add Winter Animals

Winter Decor, DIY, Crafts, Home DecorAdd some winter animals.  I kept the reindeer art from Christmas, moved the reindeer from the coffee table.  I also kept the white sparkly fox from the front foyer, the bear on the mirror in the guest room.

The reindeer cushion from Christmas and the white bunny cushion from spring add cheerfulness.

Make some animal printables or purchase animal artwork. I got this reindeer on sale at Bouclair.  It is suppose to be a place mat,  I put it into an Ikea frame for instant art.

I collect a series of these bears from a local artist and hang them around my home for the winter months.

Add Winter Elements

Winter Decor, Home Decor, DIY, CraftsI added some simple natural arrangements, mostly pinecones and then I made some pom poms tied them to a white scarf and wrapped them around this pewter deer head.

I have a few vignettes with clear glass that I will eventually fill with white candy.  For the simple winter decor I do not add any cloth liners to the tray.

Keep it Clean and Simple

Winter Decor, DIY, Crafts,

After the clutter of Christmas the less is more simplicity of Winter decor works for me.  Its very nice to have the house rearranged for winter.  I think the house looks nice while we wait a long time for spring.

Stay Warm Everyone

Hi Debra: When we purchased our home colours were very trendy. I wanted this home to be bright and open. I painted alot of it in white or pale neutrals. I think I would love it in all plain like we did in the old days. White is always right in my opinion.

I like the little bear on the tray! He’s cute. I must say that I am new to the idea of “Winter Decorating”. Not sure I’m completely on board, I am always so relieved to get the Christmas decorations put away I don’t get excited about getting anything else out. But I see from your photos that it can be minimal. So maybe I’ll explore the idea a little.

Actually, I do have a couple things that I always set out in the winter. One is a very small plate with the image of a rabbit in the snow. Hmmn, I wonder where that is?? I will find that and put it out. Maybe some white candles left from Christmas decor.

New ideas, new thoughts, new things to look at. I’m always in favor of that!

The rabbit in snow plate would be so cute out on display. Anything you have that is white works as well. White decor is put to work year around around here.

Thanks for commenting and Happy New Year. Leanna
