How to Make Halloween Oreo Balls

Step 1: Crush the Oreo Cookies

Add 38 Oreo cookies, including the cream filling, to a food processor. Pulse until the cookies are crushed into fine, even crumbs.

If you don’t have a food processor, place the Oreos in a large zip-top bag and crush them with a rolling pin or meat tenderizer until you have fine crumbs.

Step 2: Mix in the Cream Cheese

Let the cream cheese soften to room temperature, place it in a large bowl, and add the crushed Oreos. Mix until the cream cheese is fully incorporated and the Oreo mixture is evenly combined, with a little texture from the cookie crumbs.

Step 3: Roll and Chill the Oreo Balls

I like to use a one-inch cookie scoop to measure the Oreo mixture, then roll each portion between my hands to form a ball. The mixture can be a little sticky, so you may want to dust your hands with a small amount of icing sugar while you work.

You should end up with about 28 Oreo balls. Place them on a parchment or wax paper-lined baking sheet, then refrigerate for one hour to firm up before dipping.

Step 4: Melt the Candy Melts

Place the orange and black candy melts into separate microwave-safe bowls. Microwave one bowl at a time in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each interval. You will often find the candy melts continue to melt as you stir, so stop heating once they are nearly melted and stir until smooth.

Be careful not to overheat the candy melts, as they can become thick and difficult to work with.

Step 5: Dip the Halloween Oreo Balls

Chilling the Oreo balls first makes them much easier to dip. The cold cream cheese mixture stays firm while you work and also helps the candy coating begin to set more quickly.

Place one cold Oreo ball into the melted candy coating. Using a fork or candy dipping tool, gently turn it until completely coated. Lift the Oreo ball out of the candy and hold it over the bowl for a couple of seconds to let the excess candy drip off, then place it back onto the parchment lined cookie sheet.

You may get a little pooling of candy around the bottom of each Oreo ball, and I think that is perfectly fine. If it bothers you, once the coating is completely set, you can carefully trim away the excess with a sharp knife.

Step 6: Add the Halloween Sprinkles

While the candy coating is still wet, sprinkle the tops of the Oreo balls with Halloween sprinkles. Work fairly quickly because the coating will begin to set, especially on the chilled Oreo balls.

Once decorated, place the cookie sheet back into the refrigerator until the candy coating is completely firm.

I hope you have fun making these easy Halloween Oreo balls. They are such a simple Halloween treat, but the orange and black candy coating and Halloween sprinkles make them perfect for parties, treat trays, or just something fun to make for your family.
