Rustic Tartan Tree

This tree is accidentally large and I chose to place all my trees out of the corners so it uses up all kinds of lights and ornaments.  Because of the size of this tree I am able to decorate it with very large ornaments.

Ever go shopping knowing exactly what your looking for and then changing your mind?  We went to the Christmas store to purchase winter animals and snow themed decor in all white and then I saw this reindeer ornament.  So not my usual taste but it was love at first sight.

I  purchased six of these reindeer heads and then came home to look through my ornaments for what I could use to go with them.    They look so woodsy and natural but were a challenge for me to use with my  existing decorations.

My favorite part of this woodsy tree is how natural everything looks, I love the muted tones of the decorations.

There is a little bit of glitter coming from the lights, the white snowflakes and the very large snowball ornaments. I picked these to make the upstairs tree cohesive with the all white Christmas decorations on the main floor.  Here is my Christmas home tour.

As the tree is so large I made various ornaments for it to save on cost including these bird houses.  The little brown bird is from four or five years ago.

When I purchase or make an ornament I always hang at least six of each kind.  This makes the tree more cohesive.  I will have the odd ornament that was a gift, or holding a special memory, but decor ornaments six is my minimum number.

While searching several places for birch bark ribbon I found this chocolate brown tartan ribbon,  I am glad I chose it as the dark brown gives depth and contrast to the whites on  the tree.  The large reindeer is from last year and the little polar bear in the corner is a  craft project.

There are also some simple galvanized onraments and snowflakes snuggled in the branches.  These were chosen at I used galvanized items throughout the other home decor like the hot chocolate station and the table centerpieces.

To add a cozy feel I took the blanket ladder from the guest room and added  winter themed cushions and throws  that will stay out until Spring.

This year I wrapped a super bulky throw around the bottom of the tree and its perfect.  The large knit makes it look rustic and  of course it looks warm and cozy as well.  My boys were still little when I first started to place teddy bears under our tree when the presents were gone.  These are the two scruffiest bears we have in the collection, they are 20 plus years old now.

I hope you enjoyed our tree. Would you ever consider having a rustic tree, or one with so few colours?  Let me know in the comments.

Enjoy the rest of the  Christmas tree posts.  I am certainly looking forward to seeing them.
