DIY Craft Room Artwork
Craft Room Artwork with the Silhouette
My craft room is so full of stuff all sorted into plastic containers with labels I have several projects in various stages for the craft room and its causing upheaval I am just not used to. Oh well it will be worth it in the end.
Artwork adds so much to a room including the craft room. Don’t you think it would look funny to have purchased artwork in a DIY craft room? There are a few pieces of craft room art in the works. This is the first one I have completed and I made it with items I had in my craft stash.
Supplies
To make your own you will need:
A silhouette and either silhouette pens or a silhouette pen holder
A frame, I used an old IKEA frame
Patterns from the Silhouette Studio Store
3 sheets of coordinating card stock
The silhouette machine is a gift from Hubs and I love it. I know they are expensive and not available on every budget, but mine was a gift and now I find the projects I make with it are very inexpensive. I had the paper and the pens and the patterns were on sale so the entire project cost $1.40. Paper here costs $1.69 a sheet (we have no Hobby Lobby), but the project only uses two sheets.
Tutorial
Sketch the Dress
Tear the frame apart and clean the glass.
Purchase a sketch pattern and draw using the silhouette pens.
This design is only one colour, the hanger could not be ungrouped which is too bad, but I love the dress. It makes it very easy to create.
Create the sketch design in Silhouette Studio. This one is called Dress on a Hanger, design #65245 by Erin Doran. There are many different pretty sketch dresses in the store.
Open the design, and select the dress.
Change the cut settings to no cut, and the material type to Silhouette Sketch pen.
Load your paper and print.
Cut the Embellishments
I considered putting a small banner where the Sew embellishment is. Unfortunately the photo mat had a tear in it that I fixed with blue. The large letters cover up the seam much better than a banner would have.
Create the cut design in Silhouette Studio. This one is called Sewing Set, design #75469 by Miss Kate Cuttables.
Open the design. Ungroup and remove the design elements you don’t need to the side.
Resize the dress form to 6 inches and the scissors to 4.5 inches.
Make sure your cut settings are turned on and your material type is set to card stock.
Mount your paper to the pad and load into the machine, set your blade to 3 and cut.
For those who need more information here is the link to Silhouette America’s Video on making your first cut.
Repeat these steps for the Button design that comes included in Silhouette Studio.
The Craft Room
Here is the first picture from the craft room. this is my sewing storage. The little cabinet tucks away all the material and the sewing machine.
As you can see lighting is still a bit of a problem in the craft room. We have pot lights in the ceiling and they cause lots of glare and shadows.
Here is a final image of all the pieces. Hope you enjoy the post. I am really hopeful it will get above freezing so I can move on to the deck or front porch soon.
This is going to be fun! I love your first art piece, it is inspiring, a little vintage with this cute scissors and the dress form and I love your dress! Very organized. I think I won’t have a craft room when I move, I will call it an office and just keep my sewing in there and my never used scan and cut…too intimidating at this moment. Thank you for joining TADA! this week.
Your silhouette art is perfect for your beautiful craft room. Thank you for sharing with us at Vintage Charm.
A lovely DIY art piece for your special room, or craft den.
This is adorable, it looks lovely above the sewing area.
Thank you Pili. So glad to have a cabinet to put it all in. Slowly I am getting things organized and pretty.

Hi Cristina: DIY art is always so fun to put together, its quick, inexpensive and unique to you.
I am loving doing the craft room but it is taking a very very long time.

Love this Leanna! It’s “sew” beautiful!!! I love the silhouette of the dress! I use to love doodling these when I was in school and supposed to be learning!! Your craft room is outta this world and good to see there will be plenty of room for me when I come for a visit one day and we can have craft marathons! 😉
We would have to tell the lumber yards to order in extra. Wouldn’t that be fun Sam. I’d make you work lots but I would have to swing you through the British Columbia’s mountains and vineyards.
Hugs and what a lovely thought my friend. xo
Leanna, Beautiful artwork for your lovely craft room! How fun to fill with things you love 🙂 Thanks for sharing it with us!
Hi Laurie: I am really enjoying dolling up the craft room anyway I like. Sort of like a she shed, I can go as girlish with it as I like.
Thank you for stopping by and commenting.
Aw I love your craft room art Leanna, it’s so nice to have your own space for this and it looks great above the dresser!
Thanks Katrin: I still need to work on lighting, I had a really hard time getting the light right. I love how the artwork itself turned out though.
I need to buy a Silhouette and your craft room. It is certainly coming along nicely and the artwork it lovely.
Hi Debra I love mine because you don’t have to go to the store to buy patterns, and they have free patterns sometimes.
So far it has worked exactly like it said it would. Thanks for commenting.
