Dollar Tree Christmas Kitchen Decor
I am almost finished painting our very large orange oak kitchen a sparkling white and want to celebrate by decking it all out for Christmas with DIY Christmas decorations, starting with these two very different Christmas Signs using Dollar Tree pie plates, paint, a free printable and some Dollar Tree Christmas craft supplies starting with mod podge. I am beyond excited to add this dollar tree ornament to our sparkling white kitchen.
Using a pie plate as a backdrop for a Christmas sign is an effortless way to add some color to our kitchens for the holiday season. I think using a pie plate makes this easy DIY decor idea the perfect piece for my kitchen. Using an everyday kitchen item for Christmas decor is a fun way to add some holiday spirit while keeping with the kitchen theme. I created four very different free printables you can choose for your own Christmas sign, two with barns and no words, and two Christmas cocoa sign printables.
Project Inspiration
The gingerbread sign is a Wayfair dup, I used the following Pinterest pin as my project inspiration and was able to make mine as a Dollar Tree project much less. My taste is typically very neutral, but I love the vintage look of this one.
Dollar Tree Christmas Crafts DIY Plates
You can make this kitchen sign for $4 if you have to buy everything, if you can use supplies you already have on hand it will cost less than that, you don’t need to go to an expensive craft store, and should be able to make this DIY decor using dollar store supplies.
- Dollar tree pie plate
- Free Christmas kitchen sign printable
- Dollar Tree Mod Podge
- 7-inch wire wreath form (optional)
- Hot glue
- Dollar tree embellishments like faux snow, fabric, greenery, and wood beads
Prepping the Pie Plate
I decided to spray paint my pie plates with white chalk paint, but I didn’t like the sheen of the spray paint, so I added two coats of white Fusion Mineral Paint to just the front of each pie leaving the back no one sees as it was. Let the paint dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions (I left mine overnight). I didn’t want to risk getting dabs of paint on my printable.
The Sign Printables
A pin was my inspiration for the first Candy Cane Bakery sign, I love the retro look of the design, but I changed the colors to green and red. The other two free printables feature a large white sparkly barn, without any wording. One is in greys whereas the other one has a cream undertone. Whichever one you use is free, just click the link to download the PDF and then print it.
Applying the Sign Printables
Print out the printables on regular printer paper, or canvas paper, using your regular printing quality.
I measured the Dollar Tree pie plate before designing the printable so it should fit perfectly in your pie plate. Just cut out the round image with scissors.
I recently learned to use a stick glue to apply the printable first as it reduces the chance of wrinkling.
Once the printable is applied and flattened smooth with the palm of your hand, then scraper.
Using a small paintbrush or sponge brush apply a coat of mat Mod Podge. Let dry. As I want my signs to last the season I placed one coat, if you want to keep craft for more than one year apply 2 or 3 coats.
Decorating the Christmas Sign
To decorate the signs I used Dollar tree items, white and cream beads, greenery, twine faux snow, and some green plaid which is my Christmas theme this year.
The first step to decorating the sign is covering the outside edge of the printable. I found a small 7-inch wreath frame at Dollar Tree. Using wire cutters I took off the outer two rings. I snipped the outer ring strung the beads on it, cut the wire shorter, fit the two ends together into the same bead, and then hot glued it into place.
For the second plate, I did the same thing with the smaller ring but this time I snipped the wire added and extra bead, and then glued the ends of the wire to the bead making it a little bit larger.
Dollar Store Christmas Craft Video Tutorial
I created a step-by-step video tutorial to go with this easy mod podge craft for the holidays. It’s a compilation of all the steps I used on both of the Christmas Ornament signs.

I love to make some Christmas decorations on a tight budget allowing me to be a bit more extravagant on gifts, or decor. This Dollar Tree Christmas craft looks terrific in my kitchen and I think the pie plate backdrop looks great in the kitchen.
