Valentine’s – Crochet Heart Shaped Scrubbies Free Pattern

The little crochet scrubby pattern makes for an easy and quick-to-create DIY Valentine’s gift. The free pattern is included along with a helpful video tutorial to make it easy for beginners. Crochet scrubbies are a fabulous way for beginners to practice working with cotton yarn, and they make simple and thoughtful DIY Valentine’s gifts. Although most crochet scrubbies are made in a circular shape, I think it’s a fun twist to crochet the scrubby in an adorable heart shape for gift-giving.

Three crocheted scrubbies made with cotton yarn. Each crochet scrubby is heart shaped, two are white and one is purple pink and white.

Pair two or three facial scrubbies with a pretty wrapped bar of soap or a cleanser and you have a thoughtful yet affordable DIY Valentine’s gift. I think it’s the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day.

How to Make a Crocheted Heart-Shaped Face Scrubby

It’s important to use the right yarn, a soft 100% cotton yarn works best for making a face scrubby, actual scrubby yarn would be too harsh and rough for the skin. You can make this crochet version in any color you choose but I suggest making at least one of the scrubbies in white or cream cotton so it can be used for makeup and then bleached if needed.

Supplies Needed

  • Cotton Yarn 50 g worsted weight
  • US 5 or 3.75mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Basic Crochet Stitches

You will need to know a few basic stitches to do this crochet. Although I have included a video showing exactly how to make this scrubby, if you need specific help for certain stitches I have another how to Crochet blog post that slowly and completely shows you each stitch needed. This isn’t a complicated crochet project though, so I suggest trying it with the video tutorial first.

Heart Shaped Spiral Scrubbies Crochet Pattern

This crochet pattern is worked in the round. Meaning it’s done in a spiral pattern instead of rows. The Valentine shape is created when we pull the second end of the yarn.

Directions

Crochet a magic circle.

If you don’t know how to make a magic circle, I share an easy method in the YouTube video.

First Round

Ch 3 (counts as the first tr).
Work the following stitches into the magic ring, ensuring you crochet around both the ring and the hanging thread. 3 tr, 4 dc, 1 tr (this forms the point), 4 dc, 3 tr. Ch 2, sl st into the magic ring to close the round.

Remove the crochet hook, and then pull the free thread of the magic ring to form the Valentine’s heart shape.

Second Round

Place the crochet hook back in and work in the same direction, Work 2 sc into the ch-2 space from the previous round.[3 dc in each of the next 3 stitches], 1 dc in each of the next 4 stitches.

Now we will create the point at the bottom. Work (1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dc) all into the same stitch.

Let’s continue in the same direction while working up the other side. 1 dc in each of the next 4 stitches, [3 dc in each of the next 3 stitches]. Work 2 sc into the ch-2 space from the previous round.
Sl st into the center of the ch-1 from the previous round. ch 1.

Third Round

Work 16 sc, one in each stitch of the previous round. To make the point work 2 sc into the next stitch. Then work one sc into each of the stitches until you read the end. Slst into the middle stitch to close the round.

Fourth Round

Now we will add a small lacy edge.

Work (sc, ch 1, sc) in the first stitch. Skip 1 stitch, then work (sc, ch 1, sc) in the next stitch. Repeat from * 7 more times until you reach the point. At this point, work (sc, ch 2, sc) into the next stitch.
Work your way up the other side of the heart: Skip 1 stitch, then work (sc, ch 1, sc) in the next stitch. Repeat from * 9 more times. Slst into the center to close the round.

Tie off, cut the thread, and use a yarn needle to weave the loose end into the back of the scrubby.

How to Use a Crocheted Heart Face Scrubby

If you haven’t used a face scrubby before.

A cotton face scrubby has two advantages over a face cloth. They are smaller so you can use the point along the side of your nose or the corner of the lips where you may want to exfoliate more. They are small so you can use them for removing makeup without staining a good faceloth. Then easily pop them in the laundry.

Dampen the cotton face scrubby with warm water to soften the fibers before scrubbing.

Add a small amount of your favorite cleanser (or soap) onto the scrubby.

Scrub your face in circular motions, focusing on areas like the T zone (forehead, nose, and chin). Avoid scrubbing too hard to prevent skin irritation.

Once your face is clean, rinse with warm water to remove the cleanser and any loosened dirt.

Cleaning Your Scrubby

After use rinse the scrubby thoroughly under running water to remove all soap and residue.

Allow the scrubby to air dry completely to prevent bacteria growth.

Wash your scrubby regularly with mild detergent and hot water, either by hand or in a laundry mesh bag in the washing machine. Replace it when it starts showing wear.
