Instructions
Prepare the tray. Line a large baking tray with parchment paper or wax paper. Set it close to your work area so you can transfer the pretzels immediately after dipping.
Melt the candy melts. Melt the pink candy melts according to the package directions. Microwave in 30 second increments, stirring well after each one, until smooth. If needed, stir in a very small amount of vegetable oil or coconut oil to thin the coating.
Dip the pretzels. Dip one pretzel into the melted candy coating. Use a spoon to cover any missed areas, then lift the pretzel out with a fork or candy dipping tool. Let the excess coating drip back into the bowl before placing the pretzel on the prepared tray.
Add the sprinkles. While the candy coating is still wet, cover the pretzel with matching pink candy sprinkles to create the fuzzy, furry monster texture.
Decorate the monsters. Cut the black licorice into small pointed pieces for the fangs. Add the candy eyes and licorice fangs while the coating is still soft.
Work one at a time. Dip and decorate each pretzel before moving on to the next one. If the sprinkles prevent a candy eye from sticking where you want it, dip the back of the eye into a little melted candy and use it like glue.
Let them set. Leave the finished monster pretzels on the lined tray until the candy coating is completely firm.
Notes
You can make the monsters with orange, purple, green, white, or any other color candy melts and matching sprinkles. Pink was my choice for these because I was all about pink Halloween that year. For the best results, start with fresh pretzels. Once the coating has completely set, store the monster pretzels in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. They can be made up to two weeks ahead. Your original post already included that make-ahead guidance.
