How to Make a Fall Centerpiece for a Kitchen Table

How to Make a Fall Centerpiece for the Kitchen

This Fall centerpiece is for the kitchen.  It’s about 18 inches across and is placed on a lazy susan so that it can be easily moved.   If you don’t have a lazy susan you can use any large round tray you like.

Choosing Florals

The only part of this tutorial that took any time was choosing the florals.  The soft tone of greyish purple in these flowers and the soft green is really modern and beautiful.   I spent an hour in Michael’s placing various flowers together to match the tones.

You will need two long sprays,

2 short sprays with  tiny flowers that can be torn apart into tiny sprigs,

5 – 10 long leaves

3 white pumpkins,

After your faux florals are chosen the centerpiece is super simple to create.

Selecting the Dishware

As this is a kitchen centerpiece chose various food-themed decor pieces.   You could use bowls, candy dishes,  stacks of plates,  salt and pepper shakers, etc.  Just make sure they are either fall or kitchen themed and in a coordinating colour.   White is my personal favourite.

Making a Base

Use large floral branches to define the outside edge of your centerpiece.  Bend them into a roundish shape.   You can use shorter branches.  I kept my long stems intact. Folding the wire stems instead of cutting them makes them easier to reuse.

Create the Focal Point

Create the center focal point of your arrangement using three pieces of dishware.    Place them in the center of your arrangement, making sure they are stable.

Your branches may need to be moved to accommodate the dishwares,  just adjust them back into a  circular shape around the dishes.  Make a mental note of any areas you need to camouflage.

Add extra pieces to fill in the circle and add interest.  For this fall arrangement, I added corn dishes and white pumpkins.

Look and fill in any final gaps with small bits of greenery.

The top of the arrangement has some gaps to allow room for the lids on the acorn dishes.  I haven’t filled them yet, but they will likely get filled with caramels and mixed nuts

Once you have the centerpiece almost complete, take some small sprigs of flowers and fill in the gaps between the various centerpiece elements.

Arrangements always seem to include a comment about fiddling with it until it looks right.  When learning I have to admit that comment makes me cringe a bit, unfortunately, it’s true.

I hope I have given you enough information for you to be able to replicate this simple centerpiece.  After I had gathered my supplies it took five minutes to put this together.   If you find you don’t like your arrangement, start over.  I promise it won’t take you very long to achieve a centerpiece you like.

Are you tempted to try the new modern fall colours, or do you still prefer the traditional pretty fall oranges and rusts?  Orange and white would be gorgeous and surprisingly you don’t tend to see it often.

Thank you Marie. I spent more time purchasing the right coloured flowers than anything else. There were a few people in the store comment on them while in the cart. I cannot wait to try your raised embossing technique, it would have suited this project.

I don’t remember ever seeing a real acorn. Real preserved ones would be wonderful. Last year I did coloured decor using oranges and teals, but I am super fond of white as you may have noticed by my blog lol.

  7. So pretty with the acorn jars. Acorns are a favorite of mine. I have dozens of real acorns from our old neighborhood. Oak trees were everywhere.

I cleaned, baked them and sprayed with poly. I have had them for years If I need new my bestfriend still lives there and loves them even more than me. She hunts for them every year.

I use more modern colors. Love looking at traditional but doesn’t work with our color scheme

Enjoy your day and your caramels. Another favorite in this home

Thanks Debra. The arrangement is simple to do, but I thought it may help someone who has never done one before.
