Bean Dip Recipe Ingredients
The ingredients for this bean dip recipe are common and easy to find in any grocery store. Nothing fancy, but put together its so very good. Before purchasing ingredients decide if you want your 7-layer bean dip to be mild, medium, or hot in flavour. Purchase taco seasoning and salsa according to the heat you want in your dip.
1 can refried beans
1 package taco seasoning mix
2 cups sour cream
1 jar salsa (16 oz)
1/2 small head iceberg lettuce
1 cup finely shredded cheddar
1 small tomato
2 green onions
1/2 yellow pepper
1/4 cup sliced olives
Tortilla chips
Optional Ingredients For More Heat
1 jalapeno fresh or in a jar
1 tbsp Louisiana red hot sauce
1 tsp cayenne pepper
avocado
Seven Layer Bean Dip Recipe Instructions
Start by choosing any large platter you like. I have a very large round chip bowl that is so handy, but instead of using the dip insert I added the first three layers in 1/3 of the bowl so I could place the taco chips around it. If you don’t have a large chip bowl, you can make this dip in any clear glass flat bottom dish you have, a clear glass pie plate would work as well.
First Layer Refried Beans
Place the refried beans in a bowl, add the taco seasoning and mix very well. Place in microwave heat for 2 minutes. Remove from microwave and spread on serving tray.
To add more heat, use hotter taco seasoning mix, or add more cayenne, and add Louisiana red hot sauce to taste.
Second Layer Sour Cream
Using a tablespoon add dollops of sour cream on top of the refried beans. Spread to smooth.
Third Layer Salsa
Add the salsa on top of the sour cream. Adapt the heat by choosing hot, medium or mild salsa.
Fourth Layer Cheese
Grate the cheese finely, add it on top of the salsa, making sure it stays within the boundaries of the other layers.
Fifth Layer Lettuce
Wash and dry the lettuce. Shred the lettuce finely. Place as the fifth layer.
Wash and dry all the remaining vegetables your going to use, tomato, green onions, yellow pepper, avocado.
Sixth Layer Vegetables
Add fresh green, yellow, or red pepper peppers, small bits of avocado, fresh diced tomatos. Whatever toppings you prefer or have in the fridge.
Seventh Layer Olives
For the top layer add slices of olives for a mildly spiced bean dip. If you like a hotter bean dip add slices of jalapenos.
You can use this dip right away, or place it in the fridge well wrapped in cellophane (not with the chips) for a few hours.
