Ghost Mummy Halloween Treats for Kids
Quick and Easy Ghost Mummy Halloween Treats Recipe
These marshmallow rice krispie treats are quick and easy to make. The ghosts are made using my everyday rice krispie square recipe and then updated into adorable ghosts for Halloween treats.
Placing the ghost Halloween treats on sticks keeps little fingers from getting sticky. If sent to a Halloween party at school I am sure the teacher will be thankful.
Ghost Mummy Halloween Treats Recipe
This recipe made 7 large Ghost Mummies, for a larger school group I would double the recipe.
Ingredients
[one-half-first]
1/4 cup butter
package of marshmallows (40 large)
1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
6 Cups Rice Krispies
[/one-half-first]
[one-half]
ghost shaped cookie cutter
black icing
1 cup white melting chocolate
7 wood sticks
[/one-half]
Butter a large pan or cookie sheet. Cover with parchment paper and butter again, set aside.
In large microwaveable bowl, microwave the butter on HIGH 30-60 seconds or until melted.
Add marshmallows, toss to coat.
Microwave on high in 30 second increments, until the marshmallows expand and are large and puffy (60 -90 seconds) .
Remove from microwave and stir until the marshmallows melt down. Add the vanilla.
Add the rice krispies and stir until coated.
Pour into the pan and press down so they are about 1/2 inch thick.
Let cool until solid. To speed up the process you can place them in the freezer for half an hour.
Using a ghost shaped cookie cutter cut out the ghosts. If you find your cookie cutter isn’t thick enough, even when pressed hard, cut it out as best you can with the cookie cutter and then retrace the edges using a small knife.
Once the marshmallow treats are cut insert a stick into the bottom of each one. The sticks are easy to insert, push them until the end of the stick is in the middle of each ghost.
Melt the white chocolate. I used a plastic microwaveable container with a tip. Melt the chocolate in the microwave on defrost until the chocolate is soft (about two minutes). Squeeze the bottle repeatedly to make the melted wafers liquid.
You can use a spoon and drizzle the chocolate if you prefer. I don’t recommend a plastic bag with the corner snipped out as the chocolate is quite warm. Drip over the ghost shapes to resemble a mummy.
Using black icing pipe on a simple face. I used the tip from a Wilton candy melt container and screwed it onto the end of purchased icing. So fast, easy and no mess at all. Alternatively pop the icing into a icing bag fit with a small plain decorating tip.
Pipe on very simple smiling ghostly faces. When making these simple treats I do my best, with the idea that this isn’t Halloween Spooktacular on TV. Children are very forgiving about the perfection of decorating, if they recognize them as little ghosts that’s all that’s needed. As a bonus they will recognize them as marshmallow krispie treats and most kids LOVE them.
If taking to a party you can package them individually by sliding them into dollar store cellophane treat bags and then tying a ribbon around the stick to close them.
Happy Halloween.
